Charlotte Cornish - Colours of the Mind

Charlotte Cornish

Colours of the Mind

Online Exhibition Jan 2 to Feb 28 2022

"Look at Charlotte Cornish's paintings to see what colour can do.The result suggests the slowly accumulated, multi-layered character of experience and memory. The action paintings go out of the self into a joyous affirmation of Life: the layered paintings are more reflective, and look like images of the mind."

Don Cupitt, Emmanuel College Cambridge.

Enter the sanctuary of Charlotte's mind as she draws from life's experiences - during this never ending lock-down. Through confinement she finds hidden depths, maturing her techniques with greater colours and translucency.

  • Pour over Charlotte’s new paintings and you’ll find yourself falling into another world as she explores life and nature juxtaposed through abstraction.

We find deeper spaces veiled in iridescent colours which bleed beyond boundaries of the canvas. Solid but not stationary masses emerges and fall away behind an eruption of vibrant splatters.

Layering of hues provides a three dimensionality. Diluted acrylics poured in successive layers onto the surface gives a luminosity that avoids the evidence of brushstrokes. Unlike previous generations of post painterly abstraction Charlotte focus's not only on light and colour but also new and immersive forms which induce an emotional intimacy with life.
