David Hayward

Painter British, Born 1949

David Hayward is a British abstract artist who lives in Kent. He studied at the Royal College of Art, Brighton Polytechnic, Canterbury School of Art & Architecture and Cheltenham College of Art & Design. His work combines a preoccupation with formal abstraction and reflections upon the outside world. Thoughts and memories of places and events drive decision-making and inform the direction of each painting. References can include geological structures and transient systems such as weather, erosion, time and sound. His use of encaustic (oil colour dissolved in molten wax) facilitates over-painting and reclaiming underlying layers which gives his work a heightened physical as well as optical quality.
