Denver Sorrell - Bachus and Ariadne

Denver Sorrell

“Bachus and Ariadne”

Meet Denver Sorrel, he’s causing a stir in the London art market and attracting new collectors. It's not surprising though when experiencing the draw and pinch his paintings have on us with their intriguing subjects patina and nostalgia for a past life.

"My art is my life both literally and physically, I’m no longer sure where the paint ends and life begins or vice versa. I am for the most part a figurative painter with a particular penchant for painting the unknown."

Denver has something powerful to say; not afraid to explore a subject of Greek Mythology and make it his own- "Bacchus and Ariadne" touches on love, wine and women. It's a passionate tale that transforms time and has been used by Great artists since the Middle Ages. Denver aptly chooses to paint upon a tapestry tacked to a strainer as the old masters would have done, his palette having the warmth of a bygone age, ochres and umbers subduing the brightness to create a sense of time and age. His compelling compositions talk to us in the language of Cubism With Denver’s own experiences and standpoint as subjects.

“I paint figures that embody no particular persona, they are comprised of bits, pieces, line and colour The amalgamated resulting figure is both familiar, strange, and often enigmatic."

With growing popularity he has launched a series of successful solo and group exhibitions in the South East of England, recently securing exhibitions with Panter and Hall and with AKA Contemporary this coming autumn. His work is now widely collected in the UK and internationally.

Denver will be exhibiting between the 7th October and 12th November at AKA Contemporary Cambridge.

History

Denver graduated from Art & Design at Ware College and St Albans at the start of the Millennium. He quickly established himself as a serious mural painter and trompe l'oeil artist, painting mainly classical motifs and themed interiors for nightclubs and bars in and around London. Then after tiring of the unsociable hours, he swapped his paintbrush for a technical pen to eventually become a leading designer and inventor of engaging 'point of sale' concepts for global drinks and retail brands.

Denver has never stopped painting...
